HISTORY

A hotel rich in history, service and style
It was the height of the roaring twenties when Martin Luther Hampton, an associate of Addison Mizner designed and built the Colony in 1926. From the outside, the twin domes are an example of the romantic Flagler era of Florida Mediterranean architecture. Inside you’ll see what decades of family care and dedication can preserve and improve. The interior of the hotel includes the 1926 staff operated elevator and the original telephone switchboard. In the lobby, is the original hand-woven Ficks Reed wicker furniture and is lit by six wood skylights. The lobby terrazzo floor, the porch Cuban tile floor and the red oak floor in the music and former dining rooms  are still shined with love. Every step reveals lovingly cared-for details you’ll only discover at the Colony Hotel.

A historic hotel that’s a true family affair
It was in 1935 that newlyweds George and Agnes Boughton bought the property with George’s father and renamed it The Colony Hotel. From that day on, the care lavished on both guests and buildings has truly been a family affair. In fact, not a season has gone by that a family member or two couldn’t be found working somewhere at the hotel. Generations of family have shared their enthusiasm for hospitality and commitment to guest service.

In 1949, the addition of the oceanfront beach property was added as an amenity. Private cabañas and a heated saltwater pool were built and the Cabaña Club quickly became a highlight of guests stay.

Today the Colony is one of the most important historic landmarks in Delray Beach. Its location on Atlantic Avenue has allowed the Colony to witness the evolution of this Village by the Sea from its humble beginnings to its present day resort status, two-time All American City and Most Fun Small Town.

GREEN HOTEL

Caring for guests, the environment and our local community

As an eco hotel the Colony donates a dollar for each room night sold to a local green organization every year.
